Gold Pricing: The spot price you see for Gold refers to gold in its purest state, or 24 karat gold. Most solid gold jewelry items are made of a composite gold and other metals for extended durability. Common standard gold purity levels are 18 karat, or .750; 14 karat, or .585; and 10 karat, or .417. The price of each metal purity level daily is calculated as a relationship to the spot price of 24 karat gold.
